If you have decided to install the hardwood flooring all yourself there is a lot of equipment that you would have to use. Among all the equipment, you will have a variety of glues to choose from.

Choosing the perfect Glue or Adhesive for your Flooring:

A person sets the budget for everything he is planning to buy or replace. Even choosing the required equipment for flooring costs money and hence a budget needs to be prepared. There are a lot of options available in the market for the type of glue that should be used to install the flooring. This article will focus on the most cost effective adhesives one can use.

The market is full of adhesives and glues, but there is a specific type of glue that is required to install hardwood flooring. A lot of people may buy cheap glues just because of its price but it doesn’t even work for them. You need to be cautious about the glue or adhesive you are buying for installing the hardwood flooring in your house. The two most liked varieties of adhesives are Urethane Adhesives Gluedown and Water Base Adhesives Gluedown.
Urethane Adhesives Gluedown

Usually, the company from which you have bought the flooring specifies the type of glue that can be used for its installation in case you decide for a do-it-yourselfer. This is by far the most popular choice of adhesive available in the market for installing hardwood flooring. Urethane adhesives are although not a very viable solution when it comes to cost effectiveness, but they are way more eco-friendly than the other options available in the market. It is interesting to note that while solid hardwood flooring is installed through a nailing down technique, it is the engineered flooring which can be installed using these adhesives.

Solid Hardwood FlooringWater Base Adhesive Gluedown:

Water base adhesive is another option available in the market. True to its name, this adhesive is much more fluid in its consistency as compared to the urethane adhesive which is comparatively thicker. Because this adhesive is so fluid, it is very easy to spread it over the surface of your wood. A word of caution, this adhesive can only be used for engineered flooring and not solid hardwood flooring.

One of the disadvantages with this adhesive is that if suppose it is applied to your hardwood floor surface and kept in place for some time. If later you notice that some gap has been left between the two boards installed, it is almost next to impossible to shift the board a little closer because the glue is stuck to the floor. In other words, as soon as the moisture of the glue evaporates, it sticks very efficiently to the floor and hence you cannot change its position.

Choose the alternative that doesn’t create a hole in your pocket and is easier to work with. There are a lot of other adhesives also available in the market, but there two are the most specialized ones for hardwood flooring.
